Every year, more than 46 lakh students fail in class 10 and 12 board exams across the country. It includes about 27.5 lakh candidates of Class 10, while about 18.6 lakh candidates of Class 12. A brainstorming session is underway at the Ministry of Education level with an aim to motivate these candidates to rejoin regular classes and continue their studies.

In order to connect such students to the mainstream of education and improve the gross enrollment ratio, Andhra Pradesh has taken a unique initiative from the academic session 2023-24 in which students who failed classes 10 and 12 will be admitted to classes as regular students. It has been made mandatory to do so.

Moreover, there are students who do not appear in these examinations and can be potential candidates for skill-based training and open schooling. In a meeting of the Project Sanction Board organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education in New Delhi, for the academic session 2024-25, other states were also asked to look at the Andhra Pradesh model and address the failures. Students of class 10 and 12 have been appealed to take necessary action.
