Africa beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets, why alarm bells for India?

Sri Lankan batsmen could not survive against the bowling of Enrique Norcia.South Africa’s batsmen were also seen struggling to get short targets.Alarm bells rang for Rohit and company.

New Delhi. When the Sri Lankan team entered the first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa, the captain’s plan was to start the tournament strongly by taking two points. South African fast bowler Enrique Norcia spoiled the intentions of Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga. Norkia, who took four wickets in the match, reversed. He broke the back of the Lankan batting order by taking three wickets in 10 balls. Sri Lankan tea was all out for just 77 runs. This is Sri Lanka’s lowest ever score in the T20 format. India has a lot to learn from this match.

Captain Aidan Markram put Enrique Norcia on the bowling attack in the eighth over. He dismissed Kamindu Mendis on the fifth ball. After this, Norkia again launched a bowling attack in the 10th over. He got Kusal Mendis out on the last ball, who was playing for 19 runs. In the 12th over, he also dismissed Aslanka for a personal score of six runs.

Recorded the lowest economy
Along with this, Enrique Norcia has created a record of bowling the lowest economy spell in the history of T20 World Cup. He conceded just seven runs in his four overs with an economy of 1.80. During this time he took four wickets in his name. This record was previously held by Ajanta Mendis of Sri Lanka. He achieved this record against Zimbabwe in the 2012 T20 World Cup.

What alarm bells for India?
This question will arise in mind that Sri Lanka and South Africa teams are not even in India’s group. In such a situation, how can this be a danger bell for the team captained by Rohit Sharma. Actually, this is not because of Sri Lanka and South Africa but because of the pitch of New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. The ground in New York is completely new, where the pitch has been reduced. Generally a drop in pitch is considered good for batting but here there is an uneven bounce. The pitch is said to be very slow, due to which the batsmen are facing a lot of difficulty in playing the shots. India have to play three out of four group stage matches on this pitch. Even during the practice match, Team India had to struggle a lot to score runs on this pitch. In such a situation, Team India will have to bat carefully.
