Team India became the first team to capture the title in the tournament without losing a single match. Batting first, Team India scored 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets on the back of Virat Kohli’s half-century and Akshar Patel’s 47 runs. In reply, the South African team could score only 169 runs for 8 wickets. Irfan Pathan got emotional and choked up while doing commentary after India’s win.

In the ICC T20 World Cup, the Indian team ended the trophy drought that had been going on since 2007. Captain Rohit Sharma chose to bat first after winning the toss against South Africa. After three initial shocks, Virat Kohli along with Akshar Patel rescued the team from the trouble. King Kohli played a valuable innings of 76 runs off 59 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. Akshar Patel scored 47 runs in 31 balls. India scored 176 runs for 7 wickets.
