The West Indies cricket team will begin its campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (June 2) against Papua New Guinea. This Group C match will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. West Indies star batsman Nicholas Pooran has a chance to create history in this match. He is very close to becoming the highest run-scorer for West Indies in T20 Internationals.

Former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran has scored 1848 runs in 88 matches. He needs 52 runs to break Chris Gayle’s record of 1899 runs. Chris Gayle, who played a major role in winning two T20 World Cup titles for West Indies in 2012 and 2016, has scored 1899 runs in 79 matches.

West Indies explosive batsman Nicholas Pooran is in great form right now. He scored 499 runs while representing Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. Before the start of the T20 World Cup, he played a quick innings of 75 runs off 25 balls against Australia.

The team expects a better performance from Nicholas Pooran in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Apart from breaking Gayle’s record, Pooran also has a chance to increase the number of sixes in T20 Internationals. Puran has hit 115 sixes. If he manages to hit 10 sixes in the ongoing tournament, he will become the most six-hitting batsman in T20 Internationals for West Indies. During the West Indies-Papua New Guinea match, Andre Russell will have a chance to become the second West Indies cricketer after Dwayne Bravo to score 1000 runs and take 50 wickets in T20 Internationals.
