Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday announced that former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has joined the franchise as their new batting coach and mentor. Karthik first played for RCB in 2015 and 2016. He had two separate stints with the Bengaluru-based franchise, the most recent of which was 2022-2024. He scored a total of 326 runs in 15 matches in the 2024 season at a strike rate of 187.36.

On his appointment as RCB’s batting coach and mentor, Dinesh Karthik said, “Coaching at the professional level is incredibly exciting for me and I am really excited about this as a new chapter in my life. Hopefully, “the breadth of my experiences as a player will contribute to the growth of the group. can deliver and bring added value.”

Dinesh Karthik further said, “I believe success in cricket depends not only on technical mastery but also on match intelligence and composure. Dinesh Karthik retired from all forms of the game after the end of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign in IPL 2024. This wicketkeeper-batsman has featured in 257 IPL games. During this period, he has scored 22 fifties in the IPL and scored 4842 runs with the bat.

The 39-year-old, who made his ODI debut for India at the age of 19 in 2004, has a vast batting experience spanning over two decades. He has played 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 60 T20 Internationals for India. Dinesh Karthik was a member of the Indian team that won the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and participated in every season of the IPL until his retirement.

Speaking about the appointment of Dinesh Karthik, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat said, “DK is a great addition to our coaching group.
