Kane Williamson’s side, who were eliminated in the first round of the tournament, won their last league match against New Papua Guinea by 7 wickets. Batting first against the lethal bowling of Lockie Ferguson, the PNG team were restricted to a score of just 78 runs. Chasing the target, New Zealand won by 3 wickets in 12.2 overs.
