But after being dismissed for a wicket, Abhishek returned as ‘Amber’ in the very next match. He scored a storming century in the second T20 match on Sunday. He scored 100 runs in 47 balls. He hit seven fours and eight brilliant sixes in his innings. 23-year-old Abhishek’s father Rajkumar Sharma has revealed the secret of his son’s tremendous comeback. Abhishek has become the Indian player to score a century in the shortest innings in T20 Internationals.
‘I used to blame the passion for the Sixers’
Let us tell you that Abhishek has made a place in the Indian team due to his brilliant performance in IPL 2024. He is known to hit sixes without hesitation in any situation. After coming as an opener, Abhishek’s strong form is being seen. But when Abhishek returned to zero in his international debut match, his father motivated him a lot and encouraged him to make a comeback. “He was a bit disappointed,” Rajkumar told The Indian Express. You can’t blame him. When you get out for zero in your debut match, you question your approach. He was blaming his passion for hitting sixes. I reminded him that his ability to hit sixes helped him get here. Why push your style now? Stick to your strengths.”
VVS Laxman also had a hand in the century
Acting head coach VVS Laxman also had a hand in Abhishek’s strong comeback. Rajkumar said that Laxman inspired Abhishek after his failure in the first T20I. Abhishek’s father said, “Captain (Shubhman Gill) and coach (Laxman) sir also spoke to him after the match. Laxman sahib told him, ‘You used to beat all international bowlers in IPL. Treat it like an IPL match. Take your time, adapt yourself and then no one can stop you,” said Rajkumar, who also helped Shubham as captain when he was opening for Punjab from his under-14 days and is now playing for India. These two will have a dangerous opening partnership and win many matches for India in the future.
The only player in the world to do so
Abhishek started the innings with a six. He completed his fifty and century with a six. Abhishek became the first batsman in the world to complete a century by hitting three consecutive sixes. Earlier in the year 2023, Shubman Gill completed his double century by hitting three consecutive sixes in the ODI against New Zealand. Abhishek completed his century in 46 balls. This is the joint third fastest century by an Indian player in T20Is. It may be noted that India made a huge score of 234/2 in the second T20. India have won by 100 runs and leveled the five-match series 1-1. The third match will be played on Wednesday.
