New Delhi. Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has opened up about head coach Rahul Dravid. Rohit says he tried to convince Dravid to stay as head coach, but was unsuccessful. Rohit Sharma said this on the eve of his first match of T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland. In the 8th match of the World Cup, the teams of India and Ireland will meet on Wednesday. The match will be played from 8.00 PM IST. The two teams have met once in the T20 World Cup, 15 years ago.
Rohit Sharma told a press conference on Tuesday how he tried to stop Rahul Dravid. According to Rohit, ‘I tried to convince him to take up the position of coach, but he was not ready. My first international captain was Dravid. He is a great role model. I can’t see him leaving Team India. Dravid confirmed on Monday that he will not seek an extension as India’s head coach.
Gautam Gambhir is leading the race
Gautam Gambhir’s name is foremost as the new coach of Team India. However, Gambhir has not made any official statement on whether he has applied for the post or not. BCCI has also not said anything about Gambhir’s application. Under Gambhir’s guidance, KKR recently lifted the IPL trophy. Gambhir has been a member of the world winning team twice.
