India vs Pakistan: “Now is the time”, ex-captain Afridi advises Pakistan management

New York:

After India’s defeat in the ongoing T20 World Cup (T20 World Cup 2024), there is an uproar between the country and its former cricketers. Ex-servicemen are saying different things and giving suggestions. Former captain Shahid Afridi has suggested some changes to Pakistan’s playing XI after their dramatic defeat against India in the T20 World Cup. And he wants skipper Babar Azam to be fielded at number three so that Fakhar Zaman can open the innings. Having lost against America and India, the Pakistan team will have to register a win against Canada in a do-or-die match here on Tuesday.

Afridi told the International Cricket Council (ICC), ‘I think it’s time for Gary Kirsten and Babar Azam to make some changes. I would like to see Salman Ali Agha in place of Usman Khan and Abrar Ahmed in place of Shadab Khan in the team. “I think Fakhar Zaman should be promoted to open the innings with Mohammad Rizwan, while Babar should be fielded at number three,” he said.

Afridi said, ‘There are some difficult conversations and choices coming up, but we must remember that there is still hope. Pakistan is still not out of the tournament. Chasing a target of 120 runs against India on Sunday, Pakistan lost the match despite being in good form at one point, their second consecutive loss.

The former all-rounder said, ‘The main difference between the two teams was India’s stability, confidence, discipline and attitude on the field. Pakistan’s batting line up is not working and what we saw was poor power hitting performance. Referring to India’s impressive record against arch-rivals in world competitions, Afridi said, ‘India have won seven out of eight matches against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and Pakistan fans are very disappointed.’ According to Afridi, Pakistan cannot easily handle the pressure of big matches like the one played on Sunday.
