The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has announced the seat allotment of the first round of joint counseling for a total of 59917 thousand seats of 121 colleges including IIT-NIT. Students who have been allotted a seat in any college in the first round of seat allotment have to report online by 24th June by 5 pm.
As per opening and closing rank, one student got 15739 rank and 20 percent quota girl student with 24 thousand 312 rank got intra disciplinary branch of IIT Dharwad. The closing rank from gender neutral pool quota of NITs was allotted to NIT Mizoram Mathematics and Computing at 7 lakh 12487 and Mechanical from NIT Mizoram was allotted 10 lakh 70 thousand 84 AIR home state quota from female pool quota. This year, in JoSAA, 20 per cent seats were allotted to girls in the women’s category, including super numerical seats. This also gave lower ranked candidates an opportunity to choose Computer Science from top IIT-NITs as per merit list. This year, due to fewer girls in the top ranks, the open to closing rank of CS branch in IIT Bombay increased to 421 AIR, while last year a girl ranked 291 in the first round got CS branch in IIT Bombay. This year, among the top seven IITs, the closing ranks under the women’s pool quota were 556 for Delhi, 757 for Madras, 1117 for Kanpur, 1579 for Kharagpur, 1697 for Roorkee, 1809 for Hyderabad and 2095 for Guwahati, respectively.
First allotment based on open rank
In the first round of seat allotment during JoSAA counselling, the college seats are first allotted to the students on the basis of open rank from their filled college priority list. In case of non-availability of seats from open, seats are allotted based on their category rank.
