Modi government’s focus on the aviation sector, India became the third largest domestic airline market in the world

Due to strong growth in the aviation sector in the last decade, India has now become the third largest domestic airline market in the world, with 8 million seats, India was the fifth largest domestic airline market in the world. The US, China, Brazil and Indonesia were ranked first, second, third and fourth respectively, currently the domestic airlines of the US and China are ahead of India in the first and second positions respectively.

According to OAG data, India was the third largest domestic airline market in the world with a capacity of 15.6 million seats in April 2024.

The number of seats has increased at the rate of 6.9% annually in the last 10 years.

The report said that the number of seats in India has grown at an annual rate of 6.9 percent in the last 10 years. The growth rate of domestic airline seats in China during this period has been 6.3 percent. The domestic airline markets of America and Indonesia were almost identical.

The OAG report states that low-cost carrier (LCC) capacity shares play a very important role in the larger domestic airline market. LCCs accounted for 78.4 percent of the Indian domestic airline market in April 2024, the highest among the five major markets.

In the last 10 years, Indigo’s market share has increased to 62%

In the last 10 years, IndiGo has increased its market share to 62 percent with a growth rate of 13.9 percent. In the year 2014, its market share was 32 percent. However, there was no significant increase in the market share of any other airline.

Special focus of Modi government on aviation sector

Let us tell you that the Narendra Modi government has specially focused on the aviation sector. The number of airports in the country has increased from 74 to 157 in the last 10 years.

A record 4,56,910 passengers traveled by domestic air in the country on November 19.

According to data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, on November 19 last year, a record 4,56,910 passengers traveled by domestic air in the country, which is 7.4 per cent higher than the pre-corona average. In the year 2023, more than 91 lakh air passengers took advantage of Digi Yatra. During this period, the Digi Yatra app was downloaded more than 35 lakh times.
