In fact, the suit pants that Pratik Babbar wore at the Cannes Film Festival were made from his mother Smita Patil’s Kanjeevaram saree. Rahul Vijay, the designer who made this dress himself, has revealed this. Rahul has given this information by sharing a picture of the symbol. Rahul captioned the photo, ‘Thank you Pratik for allowing me to find the records of my mother and famous actress Smita Patil. When Prateek called me asking me to design the dress for the Indian premiere of Smita Patil’s Manthan, her debut film that was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, I knew that I would love Smita Patil’s look and I had to make it into her look.
Kanjivaram Saree Dress
Rahul further wrote, ‘It was very challenging for me, because we were getting women’s wear and apart from that we didn’t know what we would get from Smita Patil’s wardrobe. Pratik’s aunt gave us eight sarees, which we could use to make a dress. We chose two beautiful silk kanjeevaram sarees. One had a pinstripe pattern in deep maroon and black, and the other was a plain black silk saree—both accessorized perfectly. I never thought that I would use two sarees to make a dress for a match. Let us tell you that Pratik looked really beautiful in this dress made from his mother’s saree.
