Read on the application
Now the suspense over whether Rahul Dravid will reapply for the post of head coach of Team India is over. Dravid himself has confirmed that he is not going to apply again. Let us tell you that he took over the responsibility of the head coach in November 2021. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended his tenure till November 2023. The 51-year-old Dravid’s tenure ends after the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 1 to June 29.
According to a Cricbuzz report, former India captain and veteran batsman Dravid said, “This (T20) World Cup) would be his last assignment (as head coach). Given the kind of schedule I have and the stage I’m in in my life, I don’t think I’ll be able to reapply. So yes, apparently this will be my last assignment. But this (the importance of the tournament) is not different for me.” The Indian team will begin its campaign in the tournament against Ireland on June 5.
The last date to apply for the post of Hedge Coach was 27th May. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir’s name is leading the race to replace Dravid. However, it is not yet clear whether Gambhir has filled the application for this or not. However, Gambhir has expressed his willingness to take up this responsibility. “I would love to coach the Indian team,” he said recently. There is no greater honor than coaching your national team. You will represent 140 crore Indians and people around the world.
Gambhir became the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2024 and KKR managed to end the title drought after 10 years. Under his captaincy, KKR won the trophy in 2012 and 2014. He was part of the Indian team that won the T20 World T20 in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. Gambhir said, “A happy dressing room is a safe dressing room. A happy dressing room turns into a trophy winning dressing room. This is the only mantra I followed at KKR. By God’s grace it really succeeded. ”
