GST Council Meeting: The results of the 53rd meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council have been announced. After the meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that services like platform ticket, battery car service provided by Indian Railways have been exempted from GST. This means that railway platform tickets and other services will become cheaper in the coming days. At the same time, the GST Council has recommended a uniform rate of 12 percent on all milk cartons.

Deciding on carton boxes and cartons

The Finance Minister said that the Council has recommended fixing a uniform rate of 12 percent on all milk cartons i.e. steel, iron, aluminum. The Council has also recommended fixing a uniform GST rate of 12 percent on all carton boxes and cartons. This will especially help the apple growers of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

-At the same time, 12% GST will be levied on all types of sprinklers, including fire water sprinklers.

-Similarly, the GST Council has levied a per person per month for services provided in the form of hostels outside educational institutions. 20,000 has been given off.

According to the Finance Minister, biometric based Aadhaar authentication will be launched at the national level. This will help fight fraudulent input tax credit claims made through fake invoices.

Decision on Solar Cooker

Apart from this, 12 percent GST has been allowed on solar cookers. At the same time, it has been recommended to waive interest and penalty for demand notices issued under Section 73 of the GST Act. GST Council to file appeals before Appellate Tribunal of tax authorities Rs. 20 lakhs, for High Court Rs. 1 crore and for Supreme Court Rs. 2 crore limit is recommended.

Signs of relief on fertilizer too

The GST Council has sent a request to GoM to reduce GST on fertilizers to rationalize rates. At present 5 percent GST is levied on it and the sector has long been demanding exemption from GST on fertilizer.Let us tell you that the GST Council in its 45th and 47th meetings held in September 2021 and June 2022 further reduced the tax. The possibility of doing so on compost was discussed.

The meeting will be held again after the budget session

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that due to short time we could only consider limited topics. The second GST meeting will be held after the budget session. Let us tell you that this meeting was held after a gap of eight months. The last meeting of the GST Council was held on October 7, 2023.
