Rohit Sharma popularly known as ‘Hitman’ scored a half-century in India vs Ireland T20 World Cup 2024 match. He scored 52 runs in 37 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. He retired hurt and returned to the pavilion. However, before his return, Rohit touched the new level of sixer king. He hit 600 international sixes during his innings and set a world record. He became the first player to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. He needed just three sixes to touch this figure. Rohit made this record by hitting two consecutive sixes in the ninth over.
Rohit played ODIs last year World Cup Set the record for most international sixes hit during the tournament. At the same time, the ‘Hitman’ further improved his record in the T20 World Cup. After Rohit, ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle has hit the most number of sixes in international cricket. Former West Indies batsman Gayle hit 553 sixes in his career. He is followed in the list by former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who has hit 476 sixes. Former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum (398), Martin Guptill (383) are at the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Apart from this world record, Rohit achieved two more important achievements. He became the third batsman to reach the four thousand runs mark in men’s T20 internationals. Earlier this feat was done by Virat Kohli and Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Rohit also became the third player to complete 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup. Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene and Kohli have done this. Talking about the match between India and Ireland, Rohit Brigade won by eight wickets. India got a target of 97 runs. India’s next match is now against Pakistan on 9th June.
