Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal on Saturday confirmed that he has officially qualified for the men’s singles event at the upcoming Paris Olympics. This will be Nagal’s second Olympics. He had also earlier qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Games. He reached the second round in Tokyo.

Sumit Nagle posted on X, “Extremely happy to say that I have officially qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is a memorable moment for me as the Olympics hold a special place in my heart.

He said, “Participating in Tokyo Olympics 2020 was a highlight of my career. Since then my goal has been to qualify for the Paris Olympics. I am looking forward to give my best in the Olympics.

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) said Nagal was on the list of alternate players when the player rankings were considered for qualification as per the ITF on June 10.
Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji will compete in the men’s doubles event at the Paris Games. Being a top-10 player, Bopanna had the option to choose his partner. AITA approved his choice and paired him with Balaji.

Nagel boosted his chances of qualification by winning the Heilbronn Challenger earlier this month as he moved into the top 80 of the ATP singles rankings. Heilbronn’s win was Nagal’s second Challenger title this season, having won the Chennai Challenger earlier this year.

The 26-year-old has had a good 2024 season. He performed brilliantly and entered the main draw of the Australian Open, causing an upset over world number 37 Aleksandr Bublik in the opening round. He also qualified for the main draws of ATP 1000 events such as the Indian Wells Masters and the Monte Carlo Masters.
