T20 World Cup 2024: First rain spells, then Australia onslaught, England risk tournament exit

New Delhi. First the rain and then the blow from Australia. The England team seems to be in trouble in the T20 World Cup. Australia defeated the English team by 36 runs late on Sunday night. Under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, the Australian team scored 201 runs against the British. In reply, the English team could score only 165 runs for 6 wickets.

Australia and England are in Group B of the T20 World Cup. The Australian team is at the first place in the group with 4 points after defeating England. England have just one point after two matches and are fourth in the points table. Scotland are second in the group with 3 points and Namibia (2) is third. The top 2 teams from each group will enter the Super 8.

Not only will England have to win both of their remaining matches to progress to the Super-8s, they will also have to keep an eye on Scotland’s fixtures. If Scotland win one more match and have a better net run rate, England will be out of the T20 World Cup title race.

Talking about the match between Australia and England, under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh, Kangaroos batted first. From his side, top-5 batsmen played great innings. Although none of them managed to score half-centuries, it did not harm the team. David Warner scored the highest 39 runs for the team. He scored this run in just 16 balls. Mitchell Marsh (35), Travis Head (34), Marcus Stoinis (30) and Glenn Maxwell (28) played the innings. Matthew Wade scored 17 runs and Tim David scored 11 runs.

Chasing the target of 202 runs, the England team got off to a good start. Captain and opener Jos Buttler (42) and Phil Salt (37) laid a good foundation for the team by scoring 73 runs in 7.1 overs, but the subsequent batsmen could not take advantage of it. England suffered defeat due to the collapse of the middle order. The entire English team could score only 165 runs for 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
