New Delhi. England registered a record-breaking win over Oman in the T20 World Cup 2024. In a do-or-die match, the English team defeated Oman in just 19 balls. Buttler & Co. first restricted Oman to just 47 runs. The match was then won with 101 balls remaining. This is the record for the biggest win in terms of balls remaining in the history of T20 World Cup. Earlier this record was in the name of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands with 100 balls to spare in 2014.

With this win, England’s hopes of reaching the Super-8 of the T20 World Cup have been strengthened. The England team has now moved to the third position in their Group B with 3 points. Only Australia (6) and Scotland (5) have more points than England. Namibia is fourth with 2 points. Oman (0) team lost all their four matches and could not even open their account in the points table.

It is clear that England need not only a win, but a big margin to stay in the Super-8 race. Only then will he overtake Scotland in net run rate. England did the same. He bowled out Oman for 47 runs in just 13.2 overs. After this he won the match by losing 2 wickets in just 3.1 overs. After this win, he has gained 3 points in the points table. England’s net run rate (3.081) is also now better than Scotland’s (2.164).

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid performed best for England in this match. He took 4 wickets for 11 runs in a spell of 4 overs. He also won the player of the match award for this performance. Jofra Archer and Mark Wood took 3 wickets each for 12 runs each. Only Shoaib Khan (11) could reach double figures from Oman.

Chasing an easy target, England got off to a stormy start. Opener Phil Salt (12), playing for KKR in the IPL, hit sixes off the first two balls and was dismissed on the third ball. Captain Jos Buttler played an unbeaten innings of 24 runs in 8 balls. Jonny Bairstow scored 8 runs in 2 balls. Will Jacks got out after scoring 5 runs.
