T20 World Cup: New Zealand hurt as Afghanistan win, Kiwis out of Super-8

New Delhi. Afghanistan have secured their place in the Super-8 with a brilliant performance in the T20 World Cup. They beat Papua New Guinea on Friday. This is their third win in a row. While Afghanistan’s victory gave them a chance to celebrate, it also shattered New Zealand’s dreams. The Kiwi team is now bedridden. The rest of New Zealand’s matches are now mere formalities as their results will have no bearing on the race for the Super-8s.

Afghanistan won the toss and fielded first against Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Friday. Captain Rashid Khan’s decision proved to be absolutely correct and Afghanistan’s bowlers wrapped up PNG’s innings for 95 runs. The target was not difficult and the Afghanistan batsmen achieved it easily.

Papua New Guinea has lost all three of its matches. New Zealand still have 2 matches left, but it will not affect the group ranking. Even if New Zealand wins both their matches, they cannot go beyond 4 points. That means he will have to play both his matches and return home.
