Austrian authorities have reportedly arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of plotting an Islamist attack in the Vienna area.
The man was arrested in Lower Austria on Wednesday morning. “We are making the necessary preparations and the 19-year-old is targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna,” Austria’s security chief Franz Ruff said at a press conference.
In addition to the 19-year-old, a second person believed to be linked to the suspect was arrested in Vienna.
Further police investigations will be carried out in the area in the coming days as the threats continue.
Each show will be attended by around 65,000 spectators, and Ruff explained that special forces will regulate entry.
According to Ruff, the 19-year-old had pledged allegiance to ISIS a few weeks ago. Authorities assured the public and concert-goers that “real threats had been averted” but warned that “absurd threats” continued. A week earlier, Axel Rudakbana, 17, from the village of Banks, Lancashire, stabbed three girls.
