Explosive West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran was left heartbroken when he was run out on a personal score of 98 in the 40th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 league stage against Afghanistan. He missed his maiden T20 World Cup century by just 2 runs. Puran wanted to maintain the strike in the last over, which led to him trying to score two runs, but Azmatullah’s straight throw from the boundary broke the hearts of the West Indies fans, including Puran. However, on the back of his brilliant innings, West Indies put 218 runs on the board in the allotted 20 overs, the highest total ever in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Puran, who was in charge at number-3, came into bat in the second over of the innings. He first destroyed the Afghan bowlers along with Johnson Charles. Both scored 92 runs in the first 6 overs which was the highest score in T20. Puran played this innings of 98 runs in 53 balls with the help of 6 fours and 8 towering sixes. During his innings, he also scored 36 off Azmatullah’s one over which included three sixes.

Both West Indies and Afghanistan have made their place in the Super-8. In such a situation, this is just a practice match for both the teams. Both teams have scored a hat-trick of wins so far in the league stage, so either team will face their first defeat of the tournament today.
